Start with one or two pellets on an incense burner at 150°C / 300°F, and add another if you want the scent fuller. A tealight burner is inexpensive and simple. An electric burner holds the temperature steadily and has no open flame. Never place a pellet directly into a flame. Do not put the burner on wood or fabric, or anywhere it could be knocked over. Once a pellet turns dark or yellow on the surface and no longer gives off any scent, it is spent and can be thrown away.

• Materials Flowers: Mohong rose, Pingyin rose, roselle. Woods and resins: sandalwood, agarwood, benzoin, frankincense, clove. Binder: plant binding powder. Color: Xinjiang gromwell root (natural color, food- or cosmetic-grade). Also: honey, rose hydrosol, water.

Storage Keep the pellets in their porcelain jar with the lid on, in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, moisture, heat and open flame. Reseal after each use.
